Yes, I can only imagine you as a child growing up in an environment feeling that you were different and this not being recognised. These environments will only facilitate emotional challenges for those who are non-hetronormative: the question of their feelings and their place in the world. The fight for acceptance leaves scars that can take a while to heal. The scars include self-esteem and emotional intelligence.
