The Power of Visual Representations

They all marvel at the new skyscrapers, believing them to be a symbol of progress and advancement. They see the businessmen (rarely women) gazing out of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows on their screens. I can’t help but wonder: Are these visual cliches still fooling people?

The masses perceive these structures as symbols of national prowess. However, they are reduced to mere shadows — unable to afford these luxury apartments. They are forced to the city’s outskirts, spending their precious free time commuting to and from the centre. Their national pastime is complaining about the transport system and the weather.

Does anyone ask questions?

Depression is at an all-time high. Never mind; it is all a chemical imbalance. Nature, not nurture, is always the last refuge of the materially enlightened.

New age influencers proliferate and offer new ways to escape the rats that are increasing in population in the city because of its nightlife and fast food industries. The…
