Is modern religion a barrier that prevents us from finding ourselves? Modern religion, especially Christianity, I perceive is grounded in the material. The spiritual is something we will obtain after death. I have little knowledge of this area, but from my limited understanding, some of the early gnostic elements of Christianity had more mystical and spiritual dimensions. However, the early Christians suppressed them.
