Thank you for a brilliantly written piece. I live in a culture where the consensus is to define intelligence according to your skin colour, ethnicity, and class background. I was researching smart and intelligent materials. At a conference on the subject, I approached the then head of engineering at a prestigious British Aeroengine manufacturer and asked him about his understanding of smart and intelligent materials? He responded that he did not have time to talk to someone who should be on a government training scheme. What one may ask provoked this response? Did it have anything to do with the colour of my skin?
