It saddens me to hear of your experiences. Here in the U.K and, to a certain extent, Europe, the discussion is about the threat of extreme Islamists to gays; this perceived threat has led to many gays supporting right-wing organizations. However, these same right-wing organizations, if one scratch beneath the surface, are not pro-gays. Instead, they ultimately support Christian family values, i.e. Poland, Hungary etc.

Still, I feel complacency exists in the gay community and a lack of empathy with people not in a protective bubble. For political reasons, the E.U. appears to be trying its best not to make these members accountable.

In some of the Caribbean Islands, the Born Again Christians exploit the homophobic colonial laws to stop any liberalization of gay rights. Instead of moving forward, many of the islands are retreating and creating more oppressive anti-gay legislation.
