I Stood In Awe and Wonder (The Pitons)

You bathed in its presence; the sheer cliff faces rose,
It was imposing. It appears almost unclimbable.
It was thus a thing of wonder; it flattened you; such was its gravity.
Looking from its base, you could not see the peak.
It left you dumbfounded so that you could not speak.

I knew it came from the depths, for next to it was one of the deepest trenches on the earth.

Still, the tourists bathed in its presence. Do they ever look up at your grandeur and be hypnotised in awe? Do they ever succumb to shedding their skin? Do their jaws drop at the thought of your existence, thinking about how you came into being? Do they ever wonder about the energy that was released to create you? It is incomprehensible. Now, the landscape is covered in lush tropical greenery; all appears majestic and serene.

The Soufriere volcano bubbles away. It is a reminder of the forces that brought it into being. Tourists bathe in its waters and mud. It is the most cleansing experience; the skin feels reinvigorated, and the smoothness is indescribable. The tourists cover their skin in its…
