As hard as it is to write about our soft spots, it’s almost always harder to speak about them. There were many years when, even with the people closest to me, I never felt I was able to speak on some of the subjects I’ve casually referenced here. In addition to all the ways writing itself has been freeing, it has also worked to loosen my tongue, by getting me more comfortable with these subjects.
