Fantastic piece. Last month was black history month here in the UK. I tried to bring up the subject of LGBTQ and black culture. I was left with the feeling that this was a taboo subject. I should not offend 'black' peoples sensibilities. We can celebrate black culture, the family, scientific, business, creative achievements, but the topic of LGBTQ experiences are out of the question. I am told that this is a celebration of black achievements; therefore, one can infer that discussion about LGBTQ is out of the question. Maybe they are correct? One should forget about figures such as Bayard Rustin and James Baldwin. Homophobia is prevalent amongst many black communities. Racism is widespread in LGBTQ cultures.
