Students are often taught that our country's soldiers were heroes who opposed tyranny. Thus, it may surprise some to learn that Adolf Hitler and other Nazi leaders in Germany found inspiration in America’s racism. Nevertheless, scholars have argued that Hitler " found his blueprint for a German empire by looking to the American West." The notion of "Aryans" in America conquering their "own continent" by clearing the "soil" of "natives" to make room for "racially pure settlers" was appealing to German nationalists.
