An ode to the child that climbed the tamarind tree,
It was beautiful living in the present,
moments when you were carefree,
and so the breezes used to sieve through the leaves
and the branches swayed in the tropical breeze

There, you planted yourself in the fork of two branches,
their you felt at ease,
They were moments that pleased,
days you should not forget.

Harbour no regrets, for life is beautiful,
remember those days when laughter bloomed,
remember walking home from school,
remember the sounds of frogs croaking and the birds singing
and the rancid smell of the stagnant pond waters.

There was hooting from deep within the forest,
Beating against your chest, your heart was restless, but you felt fearless.
You did not know what made these sounds, but you wished it was an owl.
You were always dreaming of the exotics, life away from the tropics.
Your sight extended beyond the island’s shores, for, in the distance, you could see Martinique and Dominica.
